DENVER, COLO. (06/25/08) -- Swallow Hill is pleased to present Roy Book Binder as he performs in Tuft Theater on Saturday, July 12 at 8 p.m. Earlier that day, at noon, Book Binder will also conduct a special artist workshop: 20s and 30s Blues, which will provide attendees with insight to the guitar licks and tricks he has mastered throughout his career.

Roy Book Binder has been on the road for 40 years. He started out as the driver and traveling companion for the legendary blind guitar playing genius, Rev. Gary Davis, back in the 1960s. He later discovered and revived the career of an old Medicine showman named Pink Anderson, who first recorded back in 1927. Both Davis and Anderson contributed plenty to Book Binder's unique finger-picking guitar style. Having met quite a cast of characters in his travels, his shows are filled with stories of all sorts, reflecting on myriad experiences and anecdotes, and have been described as magical, hilarious, and educational.

He has toured with Bonnie Raitt, Hot Tuna, and J. J. Cale, and has made appearances at esteemed festivals such as The National Storytelling Festival, the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, the Chicago Blues Festival, and MerleFest, where he has hosted the acoustic blues stage for the past 12 years. Garnering critical acclaim far and wide, he is "a genuine example of the traveling bluesman tradition that begun in the 20s, was revived in the 60s, and continues today" (Living Blues). Jorma Kaukonen, legendary guitarist and co-founder of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna says, "Nobody writes in the idiom better than Roy Book Binder. He is a master player, singer, writer and teller of tales...true tales. He wrote 'The Preacher Picked the Guitar' and passed it on to me. It's an honor to include it on my new album, Stars in My Crown."
